Dear Honor Guard member,

Operation Honor Guard, NFP is thankful for your selfless service, past and present. Performing military honors is one of the most memorable acts at a funeral service and leaves a lasting impression on families. We understand funds are limited to purchase uniforms and resources that are needed to perform military funerals. We also realize there is a need to raise awareness in order to gain new members. We want to partner with you and help.

                                                                                                                           Respectfully,

                                                                                                                           Operation Honor Guard

GETTING INVOLVED

Why we exist.

Performing military honors is one of the most memorable acts during a funeral service and leaves a lasting impression on families. Honor Guards deserve to be properly outfitted. Our core goal is to partner with Honor Guards to raise funds to cover expenses in order to preserve a vital military tradition and a part of American history. What is the Day of Giving?

Annually, around Veteran’s Day, an event can be hosted in your community. This all-day event, known as the Day of Giving, can come with TV and Radio exposure as well as corporate sponsorships. A highly visible area in the community is selected in which Honor Guards, dressed in uniform, and community volunteers collect donations from passing cars and pedestrians. This is a day the community shows an outpouring of appreciation and support to Honor Guards.

What portion of the donations go back to my community?

Ninety cents of every dollar raised during the event held in a specific community will go back to the Honor Guard(s) in the community the money was raised.  Ten cents of every dollar is retained by Operation Honor Guard, NFP to maintain the organization. Operation Honor Guard’s staff is made up of 100% volunteers.

Corporate sponsors tremendously help the success of a Day of Giving.

The business partner and/or the television station in your community are generally in charge of petitioning corporate sponsors. A corporate sponsor makes a donation in a predetermined amount.  Typically, half of the donation is used for event promotion such as TV and radio spots in the days leading up to and on the Day of Giving.  The other half of the donation is granted to the Honor Guard(s) in the community who volunteer at the event.

When will we receive our grants?

After the Day of Giving, every dollar must be accounted for by Operation Honor Guard, NFP. This is a large event with many occurring on the same day.  Typically, all grant checks are mailed within 3-4 weeks of the event date. For Honor Guards that have received grants, please see list of grant guidelines
